Lab grown diamonds are real diamonds made of pure carbon, grown in a controlled environment that recreates the heat and pressure that form diamonds underground. They are produced by two methods: CVD (chemical vapour deposition) and HPHT (high pressure, high temperature). The finished stone has the same crystal structure, hardness and optical properties as a mined diamond. The difference is origin and time: a mined diamond formed over millions of years, while a lab grown diamond is grown in weeks.

Yes. Lab grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically the same as mined diamonds. They are not simulants. Moissanite and cubic zirconia are different materials that only look similar, while a lab grown diamond is diamond. In the jewellery trade they are disclosed as "lab grown" or "laboratory grown" so customers always know the origin of the stone.

Not by eye. A lab grown diamond and a mined diamond of the same grade look the same, even to a trained jeweller using a loupe. Only specialised gemmological equipment can identify the growth method. That is why a grading report from an independent laboratory, together with a laser inscription on the girdle where available, is the best way to confirm exactly what you are buying.

Lab grown diamonds usually cost a fraction of the price of a mined diamond with similar size and quality. This lets you choose a larger or higher-grade stone for the same budget. Lab grown diamonds avoid large-scale mining, but growing them uses a lot of energy, so their environmental impact depends on how and where they are produced. Yes. Our certified diamonds come with grading reports from independent laboratories such as IGI and GIA. The report records the stone's measurements and grading details and confirms that it is laboratory grown. Each report has a unique number that you can check on the laboratory's website. Many certified stones also carry a matching laser inscription on the girdle.

Lab grown diamonds are assessed on the same qualities as mined diamonds: cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. IGI grades lab grown diamonds on the familiar 4Cs scale, for example colour D–F and clarity VVS–VS. GIA reports for lab grown diamonds use a simpler descriptive format. Lab grown diamonds are as hard as mined diamonds, scoring 10 on the Mohs scale, so they are suitable for engagement rings and everyday wear. Like any diamond, they can still chip if struck hard at a vulnerable angle, which is why a secure setting matters. With normal care, a lab grown diamond keeps its brilliance and does not go cloudy or lose its sparkle over time.

Clean your jewellery with warm water, a little mild soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth. Remove rings before heavy work, the gym or contact with harsh chemicals such as chlorine. Store each piece separately so diamonds do not scratch other jewellery. We recommend having settings checked periodically so stones stay secure.
