Lab Grown Diamond Necklace Price: Styles, Prices & Buying Guide in Dubai, UAE
Two diamond necklaces can both be described as “7 carats” and still differ in price by thousands of dirhams. That’s because a lab grown diamond necklace price depends less on the total carat weight than on how that weight is made up: one large stone or a hundred small ones, 14K or 18K gold, a simple bail or a hand-set tennis line.
This guide explains how lab-grown diamond necklaces are priced by style, how to estimate what a pendant should cost, where 2026 market prices are heading, and how to get the most necklace for your budget in Dubai.
What Decides a Lab Grown Diamond Necklace Price?
Every necklace price is built from the same four parts:
- The diamonds. Their total weight, and above all the size of each stone.
- The metal. How much gold goes into the chain and setting, and its karat.
- The labour. Setting a single stone is quick. Setting a hundred-stone tennis line or a double halo takes much longer.
- VAT. Diamond jewellery carries 5% VAT in the UAE, and visitors can usually reclaim it at the airport.
The diamonds usually make up the biggest share. But how they’re priced depends on stone size, which is why styles differ so much.
Why Stone Size Matters More Than Total Carats
Diamond prices are quoted per carat, and the per-carat rate rises with stone size. Large rough crystals are harder to grow without flaws, so a single 1-carat diamond costs more per carat than ten 0.10-carat diamonds with the same total weight.
That’s the key to reading any necklace price:
- A solitaire pendant puts all its carat weight into one stone, so it has the highest price per carat.
- A tennis necklace spreads its weight across many small stones, so it has a much lower price per carat, even when the total weight is several times higher.
Always ask whether a quoted carat weight is a single stone or the total for the piece. Then compare necklaces using the same basis.
Lab Grown Diamond Necklace Prices by Style
Here’s how the main styles compare and what drives each one’s cost:
| Style | Relative price | Main cost drivers |
|---|---|---|
| Small motif pendant (cross, flower) | Lower | Several small stones; little gold |
| Solitaire pendant | Low to mid | Almost entirely the centre stone’s size and cut |
| Halo pendant | Mid | Centre stone plus small halo stones and extra labour |
| Tennis necklace | Mid to high | Total carat weight, stone count and matching, and a lot of gold |
| Statement or drop necklace | Highest | Large centre stone, halos, and often a diamond-set chain |
Within each style, the size of the largest stone and the amount of gold do most of the work.
How to Estimate a Solitaire Pendant Price
For a solitaire or halo pendant, you can sense-check a quote yourself:
Pendant price ≈ centre diamond + setting and chain + VAT
The centre diamond. Edahn Golan’s mid-2025 figures put high-quality lab-grown diamonds at around US$800–900 per carat, roughly AED 2,940–3,300 per carat. Prices have eased further since for most sizes.
The setting and chain. Gold is priced by weight. In late September 2026, 18K gold in Dubai traded at roughly AED 380–390 per gram, before making charges. 14K gold contains 58.5% pure gold against 75% for 18K, so gram for gram it costs roughly a fifth less in metal. Pendant settings use little gold. Chains, and especially tennis necklaces, use much more.
VAT. Add 5% if it isn’t already included.
These are benchmarks for sense-checking, not quotes. Shape, cut quality, certificate and design all move the final price.
Where Necklace Prices Are Heading in 2026
Lab-grown diamond prices are still falling, but unevenly, and the pattern favours larger pendant stones.
| Lab-grown size | Wholesale price change (year on year) |
|---|---|
| 1 carat (rounds) | +1% (Q2 2026) |
| 1.50–1.99 carats | −11% (Q2 2026) |
| 2 carats | −20% (Q2 2026) |
| 3 carats | −28% (Q1 2026) |

What this means for necklace buyers: Prices for 1-carat pendant stones have levelled off. Stones of 2 carats and above are still getting cheaper, so a large solitaire or statement pendant is better value now than a year ago. Tennis necklaces, built from small stones, are less affected by these large-stone price swings.
One caution: shop prices haven’t fallen as fast as wholesale. Industry analyst Paul Zimnisky found in May 2026 that retailers were still marking up lab-grown diamonds by more than 80% over wholesale, almost unchanged from 2025. Comparing like-for-like quotes matters.
Lab-Grown vs Natural Necklace Prices
The gap between lab-grown and natural is what makes large diamond necklaces realistic for many buyers. According to Edahn Golan’s 2025 data, a lab-grown diamond costs about 82% less than a typical natural diamond at 1 carat and about 89% less at 2 carats. For a pendant with a large centre stone, that difference decides whether the piece is affordable at all. For more on the comparison, see our guide to lab grown vs natural diamond prices.
How to Get the Best Value on a Diamond Necklace
- Buy just under round weights. A 0.95-carat pendant stone can look almost identical to a 1.00-carat stone and cost less.
- Use a halo for size on a budget. A halo makes a smaller centre stone look noticeably larger.
- Choose the karat deliberately. 14K uses less gold and is slightly harder. 18K has a richer colour. Both are good choices.
- Don’t pay for grades you can’t see. Colourless, high-clarity grades are standard in lab-grown diamonds, so focus on cut and size.
- Ask for an itemised quote. It should show the diamond weight (single stone or total), the gold weight and karat, the making charge and VAT.
- Check the stone count on tennis necklaces. Compare necklaces on stone size and count, not just total carats.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the lab grown diamond necklace price in Dubai?
It depends mostly on the style and the size of the largest stone. As a benchmark, Edahn Golan’s mid-2025 data put high-quality lab-grown diamonds at around AED 2,940–3,300 per carat. Add the gold setting, chain and 5% VAT. Request a quote on specific pieces for current prices.
Why is a tennis necklace cheaper per carat than a pendant?
A tennis necklace spreads its carat weight across many small diamonds, which cost much less per carat than one large stone. A 7-carat tennis necklace therefore has a lower price per carat than a 1-carat solitaire pendant.
Are lab-grown diamond necklaces getting cheaper?
Yes, especially for larger stones. In 2026, 2-carat lab-grown wholesale prices fell 20% year on year and 3-carat stones fell 28%, while 1-carat rounds held roughly steady.
Is 14K or 18K gold better for a diamond necklace?
Both work well. 14K gold contains less pure gold, so it costs less and is slightly harder. 18K has a richer colour and a higher gold content. Choose based on budget and the look you prefer.
How much cheaper is a lab-grown diamond necklace than a natural one?
According to Edahn Golan’s 2025 data, lab-grown diamonds cost about 82% less than natural at 1 carat and about 89% less at 2 carats. The gap is widest for large centre stones.
