Lab Grown Diamond Necklaces in Dubai: Complete Buying Guide for 2026
After rings, necklaces are the piece of fine jewellery people most often buy for themselves. In a BriteCo survey published in December 2025, 22% of self-purchasers chose necklaces, rising to 35% among Gen Z. Lab-grown diamonds have made the most-wanted styles far more affordable, especially the full tennis necklace. Lab grown diamond necklaces in Dubai now range from a delicate half-carat pendant to statement pieces set with more than 14 carats of diamonds.
This guide covers the main necklace styles, how to choose the right length, what to check on the diamonds, chain and clasp, what drives the price, and how to care for your necklace in the UAE.
Before you buy a lab grown diamond necklace in Dubai: quick checklist
- Set your budget and style first. Solitaire, halo, tennis or statement.
- Choose the length. 18 inches suits most pendants; tennis necklaces usually sit at 16–18 inches.
- Ask for certification. An IGI report for the centre stone, and the grade range of any small side stones.
- Check the clasp and settings. A firm clasp with a safety catch, and every stone held securely.
- Get an itemised quote. Diamond weight (single stone or total), gold weight and karat, making charge and 5% VAT.
Types of Lab Grown Diamond Necklaces
Solitaire Pendant
- A single diamond hanging from a chain. It’s the most versatile diamond necklace, simple enough for every day and elegant enough for evenings. Because all the value sits in one stone, it’s also the best way to wear a larger diamond close to the face.
Halo Pendant
- A centre diamond surrounded by a ring of smaller ones. The halo adds sparkle and makes the centre stone look larger. Square and cushion halos give a vintage feel, while round and oval halos look softer.
Motif Pendants
- Crosses, flowers and other symbolic shapes set with diamonds. They’re popular gifts for birthdays, graduations and religious milestones, and they carry personal meaning beyond the stones.
Tennis Necklace
- A continuous line of individually set diamonds running all the way round the neck, usually all the same size. It’s one of the most recognisable luxury pieces. Lab-grown diamonds have brought 5-, 7- and 10-carat tennis necklaces within reach of far more buyers.
Drop and Statement Necklaces
These combine a larger centre stone, often an oval or pear, with halos, diamond chains or layered elements. They’re made for weddings, events and evenings out.
Luxury Styles and What’s Trending
A few high-end styles set luxury diamond necklaces apart:
- Rivière (riviera): A line of individually set diamonds that grow gradually larger towards the centre. Rapaport describes diamond rivières as long-term pieces for building a refined collection.
- Lariat and Y-drop: An open chain with a diamond drop hanging at the front. JCK reported lariat and “diamond-dotted” chains as a major look at its 2024 show, often in yellow gold.
- Collar: A rigid or closely set diamond piece that sits high on the neck, a true evening statement.
- Layered chains: Several fine chains of different lengths worn together, often mixing a pendant with a diamond-by-the-yard chain.
Two wider shifts are shaping how people buy. Yellow gold is back: 39% of engagement rings in The Knot’s 2026 study were set in it, and the warmth carries across to necklaces. And more diamond jewellery is being bought for everyday wear rather than special occasions. De Beers’ 2026 research found that 75% of US diamond demand now comes from non-bridal occasions. Lab-grown diamonds make even rivière and collar styles achievable at a fraction of natural prices.
Choosing the Right Necklace Length
Length changes how a necklace looks and what it suits. These are the standard lengths most jewellers use:
| Length | Name | Where it sits | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14 in (36 cm) | Collar | Tight around the neck | Open necklines, evening wear |
| 16 in (41 cm) | Choker | Base of the neck | Tennis necklaces, crew and V-necks |
| 18 in (46 cm) | Princess | Just below the collarbone | Most pendants; the most versatile length |
| 20–24 in (50–61 cm) | Matinee | Between collarbone and bust | Layering, higher necklines |
| 28–36 in (71–91 cm) | Opera | At or below the bust | Statement and layered looks |
Tips: For a first diamond pendant, 18 inches suits almost everyone. Tennis necklaces are usually worn at 16–18 inches so they sit flat. If you like layering, choose chains about 2 inches apart in length so they don’t tangle.
How to Choose the Diamonds
For Pendants: Focus on the Centre Stone
A pendant is judged mostly on its main diamond. Ask for an independent IGI report and check the number online. In lab-grown diamonds, colourless grades and high clarity are standard. In our own certified inventory, 98.8% of stones are D–F colour. So put your money into cut quality and size rather than chasing the top colour grade.
For Tennis Necklaces: Consistency Is Everything
- Total carat weight vs stone size: A 7-carat tennis necklace can use well over 100 small diamonds, depending on its length. Ask how many stones there are and what each weighs, so you can compare necklaces fairly.
- Matching: Every stone should match in colour, brightness and size along the whole length. Mismatched stones are obvious once the necklace is worn.
- Setting: Four-prong or three-prong “buttercup” settings show more of each diamond. Bezel or channel settings are more protective.
How to Judge the Quality of a Lab Grown Diamond Necklace in the UAE
Whether you’re buying a lab grown diamond necklace in the UAE in person or online, these checks separate a well-made piece from a merely sparkly one.
- Small stones aren’t individually certified. Tiny “melee” diamonds in halos and tennis lines rarely have their own reports. Ask the jeweller for the colour and clarity range of the melee, and confirm that it’s lab-grown too.
- Check the growth method. Lab-grown reports can note whether a diamond was grown by CVD or HPHT, and IGI reports also note post-growth treatments. The reputable standard is full disclosure.
- Look under a loupe. Each stone should sit level, with no chips at the edges, and prongs should be even and hold every stone firmly. On a tennis necklace, run it through your fingers. Nothing should catch or rattle.
- Test the clasp. It should close with a firm click, and the safety catch should engage on its own.
- Match the paperwork. For certified centre stones, the report number should match the laser inscription on the girdle, and the invoice should state “laboratory-grown” and the gold karat.
Metal, Chain and Clasp
Metal. White gold suits colourless diamonds and gives the classic icy look. Yellow and rose gold have become fashionable again and warm up the look. 18K gold is 75% pure gold, and 14K is 58.5%. 14K is slightly harder, while 18K has a richer colour. Gold jewellery sold in the UAE carries a hallmark approved by the Dubai Central Laboratory, so check the stamp.
Chain. For pendants, cable, box and rope chains are the most common. A slightly thicker chain holds a heavier pendant more securely. Ask whether the chain is included and whether you can choose its length.
Clasp. This is the most important safety feature on any diamond necklace. For tennis necklaces, look for a box clasp with one or two safety catches, such as a figure-eight latch or side locks. For pendants, a lobster clasp is more secure than a spring ring.
What Drives the Price of a Lab Grown Diamond Necklace?
- One large stone or many small ones. Price per carat rises steeply with stone size. A pendant with a single 1-carat diamond usually costs more per carat than a tennis necklace whose many small stones add up to 7 carats.
- Lab-grown vs natural. Edahn Golan’s 2025 data shows a 1-carat lab-grown diamond costing about 82% less than a typical natural one. That’s what makes large tennis necklaces realistic for many buyers.
- Gold weight. Necklaces use far more metal than earrings or rings, especially tennis necklaces and diamond chains. The daily gold rate affects the price more than you might expect.
- Design and labour. Halos, articulated tennis links and statement designs take more skilled setting work.
- VAT. Diamond jewellery carries 5% VAT in the UAE, and visitors can usually reclaim it at the airport.

Caring for Your Diamond Necklace in the UAE
- Take it off for the pool and the beach. Chlorine and salt water can dull gold and weaken clasps over time.
- Put it on last. Perfume, sunscreen and lotion leave a film that dims a diamond’s sparkle, so apply them first.
- Clean it gently. Warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush restore sparkle.
- Store it flat or hung. Keep it separate from other jewellery, because diamonds can scratch other diamonds and gold.
- Check the clasp. Have tennis necklaces checked once or twice a year for loose stones and a worn clasp.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are lab grown diamond necklaces real diamonds?
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds have the same chemistry, hardness and sparkle as mined diamonds. Their origin is recorded on the grading report.
What length should a diamond pendant be?
18 inches (46 cm) is the most popular and versatile length. It sits just below the collarbone and suits most necklines. Tennis necklaces are usually worn at 16–18 inches.
How many diamonds are in a tennis necklace?
It depends on the length and stone size. A 7-carat tennis necklace can contain well over 100 small diamonds. Always ask for the stone count and the size of each stone, not just the total carat weight.
Can I wear a diamond necklace every day?
Yes. Solitaire and small halo pendants are well suited to daily wear. Take it off for swimming, the gym and sleep, and have the clasp checked regularly.
