Diamond Jewellery Dubai: Complete Guide to Buying Diamond Earrings, Necklaces & Pendants
Rings get most of the attention, but they’re only part of the story. De Beers’ 2026 research, based on a survey of 18,500 women in the US, found that 75% of diamond jewellery demand now comes from non-bridal occasions. Many of those purchases are earrings, pendants and necklaces. If you’re shopping for diamond jewellery Dubai offers one of the widest selections anywhere, with the city handling a record US$41.7 billion in diamond trade in 2025, according to DMCC.
This guide covers everything beyond the engagement ring: how to choose diamond earrings, pendants and tennis necklaces, what drives their price, and what to check before you buy in Dubai.
Diamond Earrings: Studs, Drops and Hoops
Earrings are often the first “serious” diamond piece people buy, and one of the most worn.
Stud Earrings
Studs are a single diamond, or a small cluster, on each ear. They’re the most versatile diamond jewellery you can own.
- Carat total weight (ctw): Earring weights are usually quoted as the combined total for both. “1.00 ctw studs” means two stones of about 0.50 carats each, not 1 carat per ear.
- Matching: The two stones should match closely in size, colour and brightness. A good jeweller pairs them before setting.
- Backs: Screw-backs or locking backs are more secure than push-backs for valuable studs.
- Shape: Round is classic. Princess, oval and cushion studs look distinctive. Floral clusters give a larger look from smaller stones.
Drop and Geometric Earrings
Drops hang below the earlobe and catch the light as you move. They suit evenings and events, and modern geometric designs make them work for daytime too. Check the weight. Heavy drops can pull on the earlobe over a long day.
Hoops and Huggies
Diamond hoops and small “huggie” hoops are set with rows of small diamonds. They’re comfortable enough to sleep in and ideal for everyday wear.
Diamond Pendants: The Easiest Piece to Wear Every Day
A pendant puts a diamond close to the face and works with almost any outfit.
- Solitaire pendant: A single stone on a simple bail. It’s timeless, and a good way to wear a larger centre stone affordably.
- Halo pendant: A ring of small diamonds around the centre stone adds sparkle and makes it look bigger.
- Symbolic pendants: Crosses, flowers and other motifs carry personal meaning and make popular gifts.
Chain length matters. Shorter chains sit at the collarbone, and longer chains fall lower on the chest. Ask whether the chain is included and whether it can be swapped for a different length.
Tennis Necklaces and Statement Necklaces
A tennis necklace is a continuous line of individually set diamonds, usually all the same size, running all the way round the neck. It’s one of the most recognisable pieces of luxury jewellery.
What to check:
- Total carat weight and stone size. A 7-carat tennis necklace spreads its weight over dozens of small diamonds. Ask how many stones there are and what each weighs, so you can compare necklaces fairly.
- Consistency. Every stone should match in colour and brightness along the whole length.
- Clasp. Look for a box clasp with a safety catch, or a double lock. A tennis necklace is only as secure as its clasp.
- Flexibility. Each link should move freely so the necklace lies flat and doesn’t kink.
Statement necklaces, such as large drops, double halos and layered designs, are made for occasions. They often combine a large centre stone with many smaller diamonds.
What Drives the Price of Diamond Jewellery?
The same principles apply to every piece, but they play out differently than in rings.
Many small stones or one big stone. Price per carat rises sharply with stone size. A pendant with a single 1-carat diamond usually costs more per carat than a tennis necklace made of many small diamonds totalling 7 carats. Check whether a quoted weight is one stone or a total.
Natural or lab-grown. This is the biggest lever. Edahn Golan’s 2025 data shows a 1-carat lab-grown diamond costing about 82% less than a typical natural one. Lab-grown makes larger pendants and full tennis necklaces affordable for many more buyers.
Metal and gold weight. Necklaces and tennis bracelets use far more metal than earrings, so the gold rate matters more. Check the karat and hallmark on the piece.
Design and labour. Halos, pavé and articulated links take more skilled setting work than a simple solitaire.

What to Check Before Buying Diamond Jewellery in Dubai
- Certification. For any significant centre stone, ask for an independent IGI or GIA report and check the number online. Small side stones in earrings and tennis necklaces usually aren’t individually certified, so ask how they’re graded.
- Total vs individual weight. Confirm whether the carat weight is per stone or the total for the piece.
- Gold hallmark. Gold jewellery sold in the UAE must carry a Dubai Central Laboratory-approved hallmark showing its purity.
- Secure findings. Check clasps, earring backs and bails. They’re where valuable pieces are most often lost.
- Itemised quote. Ask for the diamond weight, the gold weight and karat, the making charge and VAT to be listed separately. Diamond jewellery carries 5% VAT, which tourists can usually reclaim at the airport.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does “ctw” mean on diamond earrings?
“Ctw” stands for carat total weight, the combined weight of all the diamonds in the piece. For stud earrings, 1.00 ctw means two diamonds of about 0.50 carats each.
Is Dubai a good place to buy diamond jewellery?
Yes. Dubai is one of the world’s largest diamond trading hubs, with a record US$41.7 billion in diamond trade in 2025. That means wide choice and strong competition. Insist on certification and itemised quotes.
What should I check on a tennis necklace?
Check the total carat weight and the size of each stone, colour consistency along the length, a secure clasp with a safety catch, and whether the links move freely.
Are lab-grown diamond earrings and necklaces real diamonds?
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds have the same chemistry, hardness and sparkle as mined diamonds. The difference is their origin, which is recorded on the grading report.
Which diamond jewellery is best for everyday wear?
Stud earrings, small hoops and solitaire pendants are the easiest to wear every day. They’re low-profile and secure, and they go with most outfits.
