Diamond Price in Dubai: Complete Guide to Diamond Rates, Quality & Carat Prices
Search for “diamond rate today” and you’ll find plenty of gold prices, but no single diamond price. That’s not an oversight. Diamonds don’t have a daily public rate the way gold does. Every stone is priced individually, by its weight, grades, shape and origin. So understanding the diamond price in Dubai means understanding how that pricing works, and where the market is heading in 2026.
This guide explains how diamonds are priced, how carat size and quality change the rate, how natural and lab-grown prices compare, and how to check you’re paying a fair price in Dubai.
Why There’s No “Diamond Rate Today” Like Gold
Gold is a commodity. One gram of 24K gold is the same as any other, so a single daily rate works. Diamonds aren’t interchangeable. Two 1-carat stones can differ in colour, clarity, cut and shape, and those differences can change the price by thousands of dirhams.
The closest thing the trade has to a benchmark is the Rapaport Price List, published weekly for natural diamonds. It lists high cash asking prices per carat for well-cut white diamonds by size, colour and clarity. But it’s a subscription tool for dealers, and actual selling prices are often below it. There’s no equivalent official list for lab-grown diamonds.
In practice, the diamond price in Dubai comes down to the specific stone in front of you and its certificate.
How Diamonds Are Priced: The Per-Carat Rate
Dealers quote diamonds in price per carat. To get the stone’s price, you multiply the per-carat rate by its weight. The per-carat rate itself rises as stones get bigger and better.
Carat weight. Larger stones are rarer, so the rate per carat climbs with size. A 2-carat diamond generally costs far more than twice the price of a 1-carat stone of the same quality. Prices also jump at popular weights such as 0.50, 1.00, 1.50 and 2.00 carats.
Colour. For natural diamonds, each step from G to F to E to D raises the rate. Near-colourless G–H stones usually offer the best value once set.
Clarity. Fewer and smaller inclusions mean a higher rate. VS clarity stones look clean to the naked eye and cost noticeably less than VVS or IF.
Cut. Cut drives sparkle. An excellent cut costs more, but it’s the grade you’ll notice most.
Shape. Round brilliants usually carry the highest per-carat rate, because cutting them wastes more of the rough crystal. Ovals, pears, marquises and emeralds often cost less per carat.
Origin. This is the biggest factor of all, as the next section shows.
Natural vs Lab-Grown Diamond Prices in Dubai
Natural and lab-grown diamonds are physically and chemically the same, but their prices are far apart, and the gap grows with size.
| Size | Lab-grown vs typical natural (2025) |
|---|---|
| 1 carat | About 82% less |
| 2 carats | About 89% less |
Source: Edahn Golan, Lab-Grown Diamond Statistics.
As a benchmark, Golan’s mid-2025 figures put high-quality lab-grown diamonds at around US$800–900 per carat, roughly AED 2,940–3,300. Lower grades were nearer US$200–250 per carat. Prices have eased further since. For a closer look at lab-grown rates by size, see our guide to the lab grown diamond price per carat in Dubai.
How Diamond Prices Are Moving in 2026
Prices for both types have shifted, but not in the same way, and not equally across sizes.
Natural diamonds are stabilising. Rapaport’s index for 1-carat natural diamonds fell 9.9% during 2025. In August 2026 it rose 0.5%, its first increase in 15 months. Smaller stones led the recovery that month: 0.30-carat goods rose 2% and 0.50-carat goods rose 2.5%, while 3-carat stones slipped 0.4%.
Lab-grown prices are still falling, but more slowly. Golan’s wholesale price index fell 13% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, and it’s down 96% since July 2018. The fall depends heavily on size:
| Lab-grown size | Wholesale price change, Q2 2026 vs Q2 2025 |
|---|---|
| 1-carat rounds | +1% |
| 1.50–1.99 carats | −11% |
| 2 carats | −20% |

For buyers, this means 1-carat lab-grown prices have levelled off. Larger lab-grown stones are still getting cheaper, which favours anyone shopping for 2 carats or more.
What Diamond Sizes Are Available in Dubai?
Dubai is one of the world’s biggest diamond centres. It traded a record US$41.7 billion of diamonds in 2025, according to DMCC. To see what that supply looks like at retail level, we reviewed the 335 certified lab-grown diamonds in the Daval Jewels loose-diamond inventory in September 2026:
- Median size: 2.01 carats. More than half of the stones (173) weigh 2 carats or more.
- Colour: 98.8% are D, E or F.
- Clarity: 99.7% are VS2 or better.
- Shape: Round is the most common (132 stones), followed by pear, oval, marquise and emerald.
For lab-grown diamonds, this shows where price differences really come from. With colour and clarity almost uniformly high, the per-carat rate is driven mainly by size, shape and cut, not by the grades that matter so much for natural stones.
How to Check You’re Paying a Fair Diamond Price in Dubai
- Always compare price per carat, and only between stones of the same shape, similar size, and matching grades and certificate.
- Insist on an independent report from IGI or GIA, and check the report number online.
- Match the stone to its report using the laser inscription on the girdle.
- Ask whether VAT is included. Diamond jewellery carries 5% VAT in the UAE, and visitors can usually reclaim it under the Tax Refunds for Tourists scheme.
- Get an itemised quote for set jewellery, showing the diamond, the gold weight and karat, and the making charge separately.
- Buy just under popular weights. A 0.95 or 1.90-carat stone can cost noticeably less than a 1.00 or 2.00-carat stone and look almost the same.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the diamond price in Dubai today?
There's no single daily diamond rate. Each stone is priced by carat, colour, clarity, cut, shape and origin. As a benchmark, Edahn Golan's mid-2025 data put high-quality lab-grown diamonds at around US$800–900 per carat (roughly AED 2,940–3,300). Natural diamonds cost several times more at the same size.
Is there a diamond rate like the gold rate in the UAE?
No. Gold has a daily rate because it's interchangeable. Diamonds aren't. The trade uses the Rapaport Price List as a guide for natural diamonds, but it's a subscription tool for dealers, and actual prices are often lower.
Why does a 2-carat diamond cost more than twice a 1-carat?
Larger stones are much rarer, so the price per carat rises with size. For lab-grown diamonds, though, the gap is narrowing. 2-carat wholesale prices fell 20% year on year in Q2 2026.
Are diamonds cheaper in Dubai?
Dubai is one of the world's largest diamond trading hubs, with strong competition and wide supply. Prices still vary by seller, so compare price per carat on stones with matching certificates.
Are natural diamond prices going up in 2026?
They're stabilising. Rapaport's 1-carat index rose 0.5% in August 2026, its first increase in 15 months, after falling 9.9% in 2025. Smaller stones recovered faster.
