Dubai has quietly become one of the world’s busiest centres for lab-grown diamonds. The UAE traded a record 76.9 million carats of them in 2025, almost double the year before, according to DMCC. For buyers, that volume means more choice and sharper prices on lab grown diamond jewellery in Dubai than almost anywhere else. It also means more sellers to compare, and more certificates to read carefully.
This guide explains what lab-grown diamond jewellery is, how it compares with mined diamonds, and what to check before you buy a ring, pendant, pair of earrings or necklace in the UAE.
What Is Lab Grown Diamond Jewellery?
Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They’re pure crystallised carbon with the same hardness, sparkle and optical properties as mined stones. The only difference is where they formed. Instead of growing deep underground over millions of years, they’re grown in weeks using one of two methods:
- HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) recreates the intense heat and pressure found deep in the earth.
- CVD (chemical vapour deposition) builds the crystal layer by layer from carbon-rich gas.
Once cut and polished, a lab-grown diamond can’t be told apart from a mined one by eye. Specialist lab equipment is needed to identify its origin. That’s why certification and disclosure matter so much, and why reputable graders laser-inscribe lab-grown stones to identify them.
Lab grown diamond jewellery is simply fine jewellery set with these stones. That includes engagement rings, wedding bands, pendants, stud earrings and tennis necklaces, usually set in 18K gold or platinum, just as a mined diamond would be.
Why Lab Grown Diamond Jewellery in Dubai Is Booming
Three trends have pushed Dubai to the front of the lab-grown market.
1. Record trade volumes. DMCC, the Dubai free zone that oversees much of the country’s diamond trade, reported that UAE lab-grown diamond trade rose 91.5% in 2025 to 76.9 million carats, worth US$1.3 billion. Volumes have more than doubled since 2022.
2. A dedicated industry hub. In August 2026, DMCC launched a standalone lab-grown diamond division, separate from its natural diamond business. Members of DMCC’s lab-grown ecosystem commit to keeping lab-grown and natural stones separate and to fully disclosing lab-grown products. Buyers benefit directly from that rule.
3. Falling prices. Wholesale lab-grown prices fell about 26% across 2025 and a further 13% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, according to industry analyst Edahn Golan as reported by JCK. The declines are slowing, but the result is that a given budget now buys a noticeably larger or better-quality stone than it did a few years ago.
Lab-Grown vs Mined Diamonds: How They Compare
| Factor | Lab-grown diamond | Mined diamond |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Pure carbon, crystal diamond | Pure carbon, crystal diamond |
| Look and sparkle | Identical to the eye | Identical to the eye |
| Hardness | 10 on the Mohs scale | 10 on the Mohs scale |
| Price | A fraction of a comparable mined stone | Significantly higher |
| Resale value | Low and still falling | Higher, though not guaranteed |
| Grading | IGI (full 4Cs) or GIA (Premium/Standard) | GIA or IGI (full 4Cs) |
The honest trade-off is value versus resale. Lab-grown jewellery gives you far more size and quality for your money today. Because lab-grown prices keep falling, though, it shouldn’t be treated as a financial investment. If you’re buying jewellery to wear and enjoy rather than resell, that trade-off usually favours lab-grown.
How to Choose Premium Lab Grown Diamond Jewellery
“Premium” should mean something you can verify. Use this checklist whether you’re buying a ring or a pair of studs.
Check the Certificate, and Which Lab Issued It
Always ask for a grading report from an independent lab, and read it with these points in mind:
- IGI reports grade lab-grown diamonds on the full 4Cs: cut, colour, clarity and carat. You can compare stones grade by grade.
- GIA changed its approach from 1 October 2025. It no longer issues 4Cs grades for lab-grown diamonds. Instead, it rates each stone as Premium or Standard based on colour, clarity, polish, symmetry and cut. A stone only earns Premium if it meets the Premium standard on all five.
Neither is better. Just make sure you’re comparing like with like. A “Premium” GIA stone and an IGI D-colour VVS1 stone are described in different ways.
Look for the Laser Inscription
Reputable lab-grown stones carry a microscopic laser inscription on the girdle, the stone’s thin outer edge. It usually shows the report number, and in GIA’s case also the words “Laboratory-Grown”. Ask the jeweller to show it to you under a loupe and match the number to the certificate.
Match Quality to the Piece
Not every piece needs top grades. In an engagement ring solitaire, colour and clarity are easy to see, so prioritise them. In small earring studs or a pavé band, near-colourless stones with good clarity look just as bright once set. The money you save can go towards carat weight or a better setting.
Choose the Metal and Setting Carefully
18K gold gives the best balance of durability and colour. White gold suits the brightest, colourless stones. Yellow and rose gold add warmth and can make near-colourless stones look whiter. For everyday rings, secure prong or bezel settings protect the stone’s edges.
Ask for Clear Disclosure on the Invoice
Your receipt should state that the stones are laboratory-grown, along with the certificate number and the metal purity. Clear paperwork protects you if you ever insure, resize or resell the piece.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds. The only difference is their origin, which a grading lab identifies and records on the certificate.
Is lab grown diamond jewellery in Dubai cheaper than in other countries?
Dubai is one of the world’s largest lab-grown trading hubs, so there’s plenty of competition and a wide choice of certified stones. Prices vary by seller, so compare certificates and grades rather than headline prices alone.
Should I choose an IGI or GIA certificate for a lab-grown diamond?
Both are respected independent labs. IGI grades lab-grown stones on the full 4Cs. Since October 2025, GIA rates them as Premium or Standard. Choose whichever report lets you compare the stones you’re considering most easily.
Can I get custom lab-grown diamond jewellery made in Dubai?
Yes. Many Dubai jewellers, including Daval Jewels, let you choose a certified loose diamond and design a ring, pendant, earrings or necklace around it.
How can I tell if a diamond is lab-grown?
You can’t tell by eye. Check the grading report and the laser inscription on the stone’s girdle, which states the report number and, for GIA-graded stones, the words “Laboratory-Grown”.
